A cat found covered in oil has been rescued by the RSPCA – and has been named Diesel after his ordeal.
The RSPCA received a call from a concerned member of the public who found the black-and-white male cat smelling very strongly of fuel in Price Street, Birkenhead.
RSPCA inspector Anthony Joynes said: “Poor Diesel was covered in some sort of oil, which left him very unwell.

The RSPCA is appealing for information after an abandoned dog was found tied to a pole by a piece of nylon rope.
The Yorkshire terrier, who has been called Nigel, was found by a member of the public behind a football cage on the corner of Peel Avenue and Union Street, in Birkenhead.
Nigel, thought to be around four years’ old, is not microchipped and is currently being cared for by the RSPCA.

The RSPCA is appealing for information after two young cats were found in a bag in a wooded area in Birkenhead. A member of the public made the discovery on Wednesday (3 October).
The black and white male and dark tortoiseshell-coloured female are both thought to be aged around five months old.
