The use of wild animals in travelling circuses is now BANNED in Wales as of today (1 December) – following a successful campaign by the RSPCA.

Under the Wild Animals and Circuses (Wales) Act, it is now an offence for wild animals to be performed or exhibited in a travelling circus in Wales.

RSPCA Cymru is celebrating news that the Wild Animals and Circuses (Wales) Bill has been given Royal Assent.

A Royal Assent ceremony took place today (7 September), with the Minister for Environment, Energy and Rural Affairs Lesley Griffiths and First Minister Mark Drakeford present. The law is set to come into force on 1 December.
