RSPCA inspectors are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a swan was shot in the neck with an air rifle in Merseyside on Sunday (25 October).
A concerned passer-by contacted the RSPCA after they saw the wild bird was injured on Bradlegh Road, in Newton-Le-Willows.

The RSPCA is reminding people about the dangers football netting can pose to wildlife after a badger got so entangled he had to be rescued.
The badger was spotted by a member of the public on Monday (5 October) morning at a school in Wolverhampton.
Two officers from the RSPCA worked together to free her before she was taken to Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre, in Nantwich. She was also found to have wounds to her face.

An RSPCA wildlife centre in Cheshire has welcomed a rare patient – a puffin.
The young bird is currently being treated at Stapeley Grange in Nantwich after being taken there on 7 September. He was found grounded on a beach in Anglesey, North Wales, by a concerned member of the public.
He was found to have a serious wound to the body and is believed to have been attacked by another animal, possibly a dog.

The first batch of the tidal orphan seal pups were yesterday (26 February) released back into the wild following weeks of rehabilitation.
A total of eight pups were released back to the sea at Winterton on Sea, Norfolk – to the delight of staff and volunteers at our East Winch Wildlife Centre.
The centre has been caring for a staggering 101 pups since December following one of the biggest rescue projects we have ever seen.
