A dog was left looking sheepish after he got trapped down a disused badger sett – and had to be rescued by the RSPCA and Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Alvin, a nine-year-old Jack Russell terrier, was on a walk with his owner in woods behind Letchfield, in Ley Hill, Chesham, when he came across a hole in the ground.

A tiny kitten who was on the verge of death has been safely rescued by the RSPCA and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service from a derelict boarded-up house – after worried neighbours reported hearing her “screaming the street down” in the days before being found.
The emaciated kitten was extremely weak when the RSPCA and the fire service prised off the door from the crumbling building in Stonehill Street, Liverpool, on Saturday (7 October).

An RSPCA rescue had a ‘hoppy’ ending – after 12 frogs were rescued from the bottom of an 8ft-deep hole in a Nottingham garden.
The animal charity was contacted by the concerned caller who had noticed that there were a number of frogs at the bottom of the pit in his garden, who were all unable to get out.

A swan died after suffering serious injuries following a dog attack in Nantwich.
The swan was found by a passer-by in the river by Manor Road North on Saturday afternoon (30 September), with severe injuries to one of her wings.
When the RSPCA arrived, the swan was so far out into the weir that assistance was required by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service to safely rescue her.

The RSPCA is warning people about the danger that fly paper poses to wildlife, after a swallow died after getting stuck to one.
The animal welfare charity was called to rescue the bird from a stable in Ridge End, in Marple, Stockport, on Tuesday (5 September).
Sadly, the swallow had to be put to sleep as a result of injuries sustained from being stuck to the paper.
