A hedgehog has been rescued and released back into the wild after becoming stuck 2ft down a drain in Rotherham. 

 

The RSPCA was called on Monday 20 April after a member of the public’s dogs alerted her to the trapped animal in the drain on Shelley Road.

The RSPCA and officers from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue have rescued a swan with a dog bite from a pond in Sheffield, to applause from local people.

 

The RSPCA attended Frecheville Pond just off Hopedale Road at around 5pm on Thursday afternoon (2 April) after a report that a swan had been attacked by a dog, and was injured. She was on an island with her mate, sitting on a nest of eggs.

Four baby squirrels had to be separated after their tails got in a tangle in Stockton on Tees, County Durham.

 

They were found by a member of the public in some woods alongside the A689 in Wynyard on Bank Holiday Monday (6 May).

A duck who RSPCA officers and a local animal lover tried to rescue for nearly a week because he had a dart through his neck has been captured, treated and released back into the wild.

 

The RSPCA was first called about the male mallard on Tuesday 26 February after he was spotted beside the River Don, Sheffield Road, Oxspring with the four inch metal dart through his neck.
