The RSPCA is appealing for the owner of a stray raccoon dog to come forward after the animal appeared in a school playground as the morning bell rang.

The animal, a native of Asia which is also known as a tanuki, surprised schoolchildren and staff at Woodhouse Primary Academy in Quinton, Birmingham, this morning  (Thursday).

The RSPCA is appealing for information after a raccoon dog was injured by a trap in Derbyshire.

The animal welfare charity was contacted on Monday evening (9 January) by a concerned member of the public who saw the wild animal with the trap on her front right leg in Moorfield, Glossop – believing her to be a badger.
