A tiny kitten who was on the verge of death has been safely rescued by the RSPCA and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service from a derelict boarded-up house – after worried neighbours reported hearing her “screaming the street down” in the days before being found.

A swan who was found covered in petrol is on the road to recovery at an RSPCA wildlife centre.

The swan was rescued by a team of RSPCA officers using a boat on a lake in Gerards Lane, St Helens, on Wednesday, 9 August, after a member of the public spotted the oil-covered bird on a bank. An empty petrol can was also recovered from the lake.

The RSPCA is appealing for information after two cats belonging to the same family were shot within a week of each other in Liverpool.

Liberty and Shalilah both had to have veterinary treatment as a result of being shot with an air rifle in their head and neck, near to their home in Old Dover Road.

A swan is recovering at an RSPCA wildlife centre after he was found covered in petrol in a lake at St Helens.

Two RSPCA officers rescued the swan from a lake in Gerards Lane on Wednesday (9 August) after a member of the public reported the incident to the charity.
