A Caldicot man has been banned from keeping animals for five-years, after he left his dog suffering with chronic and severe skin disease over a prolonged period of time.

Karl Mark Hobday, 49, of Newport Road in Caldicot, pleaded guilty to the Animal Welfare Act offence at Usk Way Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (17 December).

A black Labrador has been rescued by the RSPCA after becoming trapped in bushes on a steep cliff edge in the Wrexham area.

The animal welfare charity was alerted after the dog’s owner reported that her pet had become stranded at the spot by Bridge Street in Holt – situated close to the border with England. The rescue was completed on 29 July.
