A striking image of penguins walking in the Falkland Islands – captured by a youngster from West Wales – has been awarded Runner Up prize in the Under 12s category of the prestigious RSPCA Young Photographer Awards 2019. 

`March of the Penguins’  was taken by 8-year-old Michael Johnson-Browne from Haverfordwest, whose award-winning photo was singled out from thousands of entries.

An urgent appeal for information has been launched by RSPCA Cymru after three equines were found on the hillside at Wolfscastle in Haverfordwest.

Officers from the animal welfare charity were contacted after the horses were spotted by a member of the public on Sunday (8 September).

The horses – one Shetland, and two Welsh Section B type – are now in the care of the RSPCA as the search for an owner continues.

The dangers fishing litter present to wildlife has been highlighted after RSPCA Cymru rescued an entangled buzzard in Haverfordwest.

RSPCA officers were alerted after the buzzard was spotted caught in the fishing line, and hanging from a tree upside down over a river on Sunday (25 August). The charity has thanked the “responsible angler” who observed and reported the bird’s plight.

A Pembrokeshire man has been banned from keeping dogs for five years, after failing to investigate and address the emaciated state of two Basset Hounds.

Mr Robert Lyn Jenkins, of Maes Y Bryn, Llandissilio, Clunderwen, pleaded guilty to the Animal Welfare Act offences at Haverfordwest Magistrates’ Court on 16 January 2017. This is an absolute ban, as it cannot be appealed for a five-year period.
