RSPCA’s Newport Animal Centre is urgently appealing for items to help with the day-to-day care of animals at the centre. 

The centre, based on Hartridge Farm Road, in Newport, is asking members of the public to donate newspapers, large plastic boxes and containers, blankets and durable dog toys, this festive season.

Items such as newspapers can be invaluable as bedding for small furry animals, whilst containers – with or without lids – store food and other pet care products.

The RSPCA’s Southridge Animal Centre in Potters Bar is struggling with an influx of Syrian hamsters – 17 were handed in two weeks ago.

On Monday 22 July a man from Wheathampstead turned up with a couple of cages that he said had been dumped outside his garage.


The cages, one a proper hamster cage, the other a general pet carrier, were full of excrement and urine and very mouldy.
