RSPCA Cymru received “deeply worrying” calls about distressed and unwell stray dogs on New Year’s Day in the Caerphilly County Borough area – which could be linked to the fear sparked by fireworks displays.

Officers were alerted to stray dogs found in Crumlin and New Tredegar, on New Year’s Day.

The charity fears that the straying may have been caused by the dogs being frightened by late-night fireworks as Wales celebrated the arrival of 2018.

A cardboard box containing two kittens has been found abandoned by a car at Newport’s Spytty Retail Park.

An American Bulldog who came into the RSPCA’s care in a “horrendous, emaciated” condition is still searching for a second chance of happiness in a new forever home.

Kia – who is a largely white dog – was one of two malnourished American bulldogs spotted by members of the public at a South Wales property earlier this year. Her body was skeletal-like, with bones across her body protruding against her skin.

RSPCA Cymru is appealing for information amid fears that a dog was poisoned in the Pontypool area.

The animal welfare charity has been alerted after the male beagle dog, named Rolo, was found to be seriously unwell on 8 November, and was taken to a local veterinary practice by the owner.
