A Cwmbran man has been disqualified from keeping any animal for five years after failing to provide urgent veterinary care for a Staffordshire bull terrier, who was riddled with fleas, had chronic ear disease and serious skin problems.
Philip James Ellis, 41, of Beaumaris Houses, Llanyravon, pleaded guilty to two Animal Welfare Act offences at Cwmbran Magistrates’ Court on Monday (7 January).
He was also fined £120 and told to pay £85 in costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

An urgent appeal for information has been launched, after a dog was picked up in Princetown, Tredegar, with horrific injuries, and a leg hanging off.
The grey male lurcher was caught by Gwent Police today (19 June), and is now in RSPCA Cymru care for treatment. He had been found on Merthyr Road.
It is suspected the dog’s right hind leg has been left hanging off after getting trapped by a snare, which has gone right through the bone.

RSPCA Cymru and Gwent Police are appealing for information after the body of a male dog was found discarded in a Brynmawr reservoir.
The body of the dog was found – by a member of the public – in the Brynmawr Reservoir, off Warwick Road, on 27 March. It is thought the dog may have been a bulldog.
It was bloated, suggesting the bulldog may have been in the water for a number of days.

A thermal imaging drone helped rescue a dog in dramatic circumstances – after she had spent five days trapped down the hole of a Cwmtillery mountain.
RSPCA Cymru, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Gwent Police, Resource Group Unmanned Aviation Services and numerous volunteers all worked together to find the Chihuahua, named Cherry.
She went missing on 15 March, while walking on Mynydd James, within the Welsh Valleys mountain range.
