A gull which was hanging from a tree by his wing after getting caught up in fishing line was rescued in a joint operation between the RSPCA and Warwickshire Fire & Rescue Service.

The distressed gull was seen by a member of the public trying to free himself from a tree on an island in Sidings Pool, Smorrall Lane, Bedworth, yesterday (Tues) morning.

River Wye_Goose 3

A domestic white goose who was literally ‘sold down the river’ by her previous owner has been rescued by the RSPCA with the help of a group of men in canoes after being left with nasty injuries caused by fishing litter left on the River Wye.

The goose, believed to have been callously dumped some weeks ago, was reported to the RSPCA after it was seen struggling with an injured leg.

The bird was spotted suspended over a river near Shortmead Street, Biggleswade, Bedfordshire on Monday (23 February). His wing was trapped in fishing wire, which was then attached to the tree.

The RSPCA was called and an inspector had to wade into the river to be able to reach up to the bird and untangle him.

The moorhen was taken to a wildlife specialist for treatment for injuries to the wing and they are  hopeful that he will survive. There … Continue reading…
