The RSPCA is appealing for witnesses after a crash on the ‘flashing lane’ at Appleby Horse Fair this afternoon (Friday 5 June), where horses are ridden and driven at high speed to show them off to potential buyers.

One horse died at the scene and another horse had to be put to sleep by a vet from Redwings Horse Sanctuary.

Final preparations are taking place for RSPCA Great Ayton Animal Centre’s Easter Fair & Eggstravaganza at the weekend (Saturday 5 April 2014).

 

The event is taking place at the Yarm Lane centre in Great Ayton between 11.30am and 3pm.

The RSPCA is urging people not to bring dogs to Appleby Horse Fair, Cumbria for the annual Gypsy and Traveller event, which starts on Thursday (6-12 June)*.

Despite advising people of the dangers, the RSPCA pulled two dogs out of hot cars again during the 2012 event. Their owners were given cautions.
