A North Wales swan experienced catastrophic and fatal injuries following a dog attack in Conwy.

The attack has prompted the RSPCA to issue a reminder to dog owners about the importance of keeping their pets under control near wildlife.

RSPCA Cymru was alerted after the swan was attacked on the estuary on Friday lunchtime (14 August), at an RSPB reserve near Conwy castle.

Conwy County Borough Council looks set to become the fifth local authority in Wales to back RSPCA plans to mitigate the risks posed by fireworks to animals in the local area.

A Llandudno resident had a s-s-s-s-urprise – after a stray, five-foot royal python paid him a visit as he painted a garden fence.

RSPCA Cymru was alerted after the snake was discovered at the Cwm Place property on Tuesday (May 7).

The snake – who appears in good health, with no visible injuries – was confined, and safely collected by the RSPCA soon afterwards and is now in the care of a specialist centre.

A North Wales seal pup that was rescued by RSPCA Cymru is recovering well, and it is hoped can be released back to the wild in early 2017.

The pup was collected by the RSPCA on the opposite shore from Conwy town, on November 1, after it was found struggling with an eye injury and with no sign of its mother for a considerable period of time.
