A Northamptonshire man who stabbed his dog in a park and left him for dead has been sent to jail and disqualified from keeping animals for life.

Steven Cook (DOB 01/07/1977), of Greenhill Crescent, Daventry, took three year-old shih tzu Ronnie to Spider Park, in Daventry, where he repeatedly stabbed him with a kitchen knife in the face, neck and body on 23 August last year.

The RSPCA is urging people not to bring dogs to Appleby Horse Fair*, which starts tomorrow (Thursday 4-Monday 8 June) in the Cumbrian town of Appleby-in-Westmorland.

 

RSPCA animal welfare officers say they spent more time dealing with dogs in hot cars last year than incidents involving horses.
