We are deeply saddened to learn that the pilot badger cull has begun and that hundreds of animals are now being shot in parts of Avon and Somerset, with Gloucestershire to follow soon.

We remain committed to putting a stop to this misguided attempt to control bovine TB in cattle, as we believe it will not solve the problems caused by this devastating disease.

A petition against the government’s impending badger cull has reached a record number of signatures, as we call for greater transparency about how the humaneness of the culling method is to be tested.

More than 258,770 people have now added their name to the Number 10 e-petition protesting plans to shoot badgers as a way of combating bovine TB – making it the best supported of its kind.

We have vowed to continue our fight to stop the Westminster Government’s planned cull of badgers in England.

Yesterday (Wednesday, 5 June) MPs voted narrowly against an opposition motion to reverse the government’s misguided strategy aimed at combating bovine TB.
