An Abertillery couple have been fined after their dog was found straying in a “woeful condition”, with the owners’ failure to secure earlier, urgent treatment causing the crossbreed to suffer.

Both Andrew Morris, 58, and Susan Lillian Morris, 56, pleaded guilty to two Animal Welfare Act offences at Cwmbran Magistrates’ Court last Monday (10 June) concerning the dog, named Tia.

They were tracked down after the stray dog’s microchip was scanned.

A cat shooting in Abertillery has prompted RSPCA Cymru to launch an appeal for information.

Simba, a ginger and white male cat, was found shot near shops in the vicinity of Tillery Road on Monday (6 August). The shooting is believed to have taken place shortly before 8pm.

Veterinary inspection confirmed the cat had been shot. Simba was understandably distressed when taken to a veterinary practice, with blood pouring from chest wounds and the left foreleg unusable.

An appeal for information in the Abertillery area has been launched, following reports to RSPCA Cymru that two cats from the same household died from anti-freeze poisoning.

The charity was contacted by a member of the public, living on Glandwr Street, who – tragically – has had two of her cats die within a matter of weeks.
