Officers from the RSPCA’s North of England water rescue team will attend the BBC Radio York Flood Hero Awards later this month, in which they have been nominated.


The ceremony is due to take place at the Guildhall in York on Tuesday 26 March, when the winners will be announced.

In the wake of the horse meat scandal and ongoing welfare concerns for horses, the RSPCA is again expressing its deep concern about the usefulness of the horse passport system, which aims to keep track of horses for disease control.

The RSPCA are outraged that the Government have ignored public, parliamentary, EU Commission and scientific opinion and announced that it will be going ahead with plans for badger cull this summer.


Plans for these pilot culls had been due to go ahead last autumn but were postponed but today (Wednesday 27 February) Defra issued a statement saying that the final licences had been granted and that the culls would go ahead from June. They … Continue reading…

A dog has been found dumped in a field in Darwen, Lancashire in a terrible state. The elderly Staffordshire bull terrier-cross, which couldn’t walk, was found by a dog walker.


The dog was emaciated, had a swollen front leg, was covered in sores and had a lump on his neck which was restricting his breathing. He was put to sleep on veterinary advice to end his suffering
