American football club The DC Presidents have decided to support the RSPCA as their charity of choice for the new season and they kicked it off with a fantastic weekend.

The RSPCA is appealing for information after a cat was rescued by a jogger who heard crying coming from a black bin bag in a canal in the village of Great Haywood, Stafford.


The male jogger heard the faint cries of a cat coming from the bin bag which was half floating in the water.


He pulled the bag out which was tied with a knot and found a male black and white cat inside.

The RSPCA is pleased with the response to last week’s rabbit welfare event in Rochdale, organised because of concerns about the number of unwanted, abandoned and neglected rabbits in the area.


The two day event – which took place on Tuesday 26 and Wednesday 27 March at RSPCA Rochdale & District branch animal centre – saw 21 rabbits and two Guinea pigs brought through the door by their owners.

A sheep thought to have slipped down a cliff face at Thornwick Bay, Flamborough near Bridlington, East Yorkshire has been rescued and is making a good recovery.


Specially trained officers from the RSPCA’s North of England rope and water rescue teams met local RSPCA inspectors Geoff Edmond and Claire Mitchell at the scene yesterday lunchtime (Wednesday 3 April) and began what turned into a four hour operation to save the sheep.

THE RSPCA is desperately trying to find new homes for some young horses which had been dumped by their careless owners.

Over the past year the RSPCA has seen a huge increase in the amount of horses being disowned or allowed to get in to appalling states.
