Approximately 400 humans and hundreds of dogs took over Bute Park on Saturday (May 18) as the hotly-anticipated Big Walkies Live returned to Cardiff.
The event marked a “celebration of dogs of all shapes and sizes” – as canines and their owners enjoyed two scenic walk routes through the beautiful surroundings of the central Cardiff-based park.
Attendees also savoured the Big Walkies Live event village – including entertainment from Radio Cardiff 98.7FM DJs Wyburn & Wayne, plus refreshments, stalls and more.
RSPCA Cymru has launched a new video capturing the fun of the event, with the animal welfare charity already “hugely excited” about the prospect of a return in 2020.
Event goers also spoke to RSPCA Cymru’s campaigns team about their calls for an annual dog registration scheme – with dogs photographed in a giant mock-up driving licence as owners registered their support.
RSPCA events and business manager Bethan Shoemark-Spear said: “We’re delighted to have brought the waggiest, woofiest dog walk of the year back to Bute Park.
“It was amazing to see hundreds of humans and their canine companions take over the park – and dogs just loved the scenic walk routes. They looked amazing in their bandanas once they finished!
“We’re so grateful to all the attendees and volunteers who helped make this event possible. It was a real celebration of dogs of all shapes and sizes and a great advert for responsible dog ownership.
“The RSPCA is hugely excited at the prospect of bringing Big Walkies Live back again in 2020. The event is fast becoming a key fixture of Cardiff’s incredible events scene, and it was just fantastic to see the dog walking community of South Wales and beyond out in force on Saturday.”
