RSPCA Cymru is launching an appeal for information after a horse was found collapsed in Aberfan near Merthyr Tydfil.
The distressed mare was found by a member of the public in a field behind Bryngoleu, who then contacted the RSPCA.
RSPCA inspector Gemma Cooper attended and a vet was called out to assess her condition.
Inspector Cooper said: “This poor horse was clearly in a bad way – she was underweight and had a fractured pelvis.
“A vet on site deemed that sadly her condition was too serious and decided that the best thing for her was to put her to sleep to prevent any further suffering.
“The horse was microchipped but the numbers were no longer in use, but it means she most probably has an owner out there and we’d like to speak to them.
“If anyone has any information about this mare, please call the inspector information line on 0300 123 8018. Calls are in confidence.”
