RSPCA Cymru is proud to announce the return of the hotly-anticipated Big Walkies Live for 2019 – with the event heading exclusively to Cardiff in TWO months time.

The mass-participation dog walk will again take place at Sophia Gardens, Bute Park on 18 May 2019 at 10.30am.  Hundreds of poochy pals, and their owners, are set to descend on Wales’ capital city to take part.

Dog walkers will have the choice between two scenic routes – 2km (1.25 miles) and 4km (2.5 miles) – with all participants encouraged to raise money to help the RSPCA rescue, rehabilitate and rehome dogs in need.

Last year, some 450 humans and 250 dogs took part in the event – and another “celebration of dog walking, and pooches of all shapes and sizes” is now planned.

Entry to the event is only £5 – or £2.50 for children aged five to 16; and includes a whole host of goodies suitable for the whole family.

Tickets can now be purchased online, and places are limited – so signing-up early is strongly encouraged. Event go-ers will get their hands on an exclusive t-shirt, doggy bandana, wristband, poo bag and more.

Attendees will also get the chance to enjoy the RSPCA event village, including food, drink, stalls and live entertainment from Radio Cardiff 98.7FM DJ duo Wyburn & Wayne.

Big Walkies Live 2019 is set to be an even “bigger, waggier and woofier” event than last year. An RSPCA dog expert has labelled the day an “ideal way” to exercise dogs, support their welfare and meet other dog lovers from across South Wales and beyond.

Dr Samantha Gaines, head of the RSPCA’s companion animals department, said: “Dog walkers across South Wales and beyond will be delighted to hear that Big Walkies Live is coming back! The countdown is now on!

“The RSPCA cannot wait to bring this fun-filled family event back to Cardiff on 18 May. It promises to be an even bigger, waggier and woofier day than last time!

“We know how important exercise and walking is for happy, healthy dogs – and this event is an ideal way to give dogs a stunning walk, with plenty of opportunities for sniffing and exploring; plus the chance to meet other dogs and dog owners from all over the place.

Tickets are on sale now – with a host of goodies on offer. Spaces are limited, though – so we’re urging people to sign up now and join our celebration of dog walking, and pooches of all shapes and sizes.”

Beckie Gwynne and her dog Koda, from Cardiff, were just one of countless doggy/owner duos to take part in last year’s event – raising vital funds for the RSPCA’s work via JustGiving.

She said: “Last year’s Big Walkies Live was such an amazing day. Koda loved taking part alongside hundreds of other dogs; and couldn’t get enough of the poochy pit stops, or the refreshing paddling pools!

“It’s so exciting that Big Walkies Live returns to Cardiff again this year. I’d urge dog owners to get involved and secure a place at this amazing day on May 18.

“Not all dogs are as lucky as Koda – many have not been fortunate to find their loving forever homes.  Big Walkies Live also gave me the chance to raise money to help those dogs, and other animals, in need – supporting our best furry friends; and having a great fun at the same time.”
