Commenting on a Welsh Government announcement, from the Minister for Environment, Energy and Rural Affairs, Lesley Griffiths, that £5million has been made available via the Rural Development Programme to help sheep scab in Wales, RSPCA farm animal specialist John Avizienius said:

“Sheep scab can cause sheep severe discomfort and distress – and lead to further problems if not identified and dealt with quickly.

“This £5million investment from the Welsh Government – via the Rural Development Programme – is hugely welcome; as is a commitment to eradicate sheep scab, a condition which can have serious consequences for welfare.

“Farm animal welfare is a key commitment for the RSPCA, and we’ll continue to work with the Welsh Government to ensure Wales is a fantastic place for farm animals to live.”
