Fun and games are in store at RSPCA Newport Animal Centre’s upcoming open day.

The annual event, which will take place on Sunday, July 15 from 11am to 3.30pm, will certainly be a fun day for all the family – and their canine pals too.

All funds raised on the day will go straight back into the centre for the rehabilitation and rehoming of the animals in their care. At any one time the centre cares for more than 100 animals and in 2017, around 400 animals were rehomed – 91 dogs, 218 cats, 43 rabbits and 48 other animals were rehomed.

The fun day will involve a dog show with 10 classes, a BBQ and refreshments, children’s games, face painting, a children’s craft corner and more! There will also be a bric-a-brac stall, a raffle and a ‘catless’ cat show for all the cat lovers out there. All you need to do is bring along your cat photos on the day to enter the photo competition.

Deputy centre manager Kath Logan said “We’re now counting down the days until our annual fun day, which is something we always look forward to every year.

“It’s a great fun-filled family event and we always love meeting everyone and their dogs on the day. We also can’t wait for our dog show and ‘catless’ cat show. You can enter the cat show now by getting in touch with us before the day or you can bring along your pictures on the day.”

Ahead of the day RSPCA Newport Animal Centre staff are appealing for items for their raffle, tombola and bric-a-brac stall.

Kath added: “We appealing for anyone who might be able to donate items for our stalls on the day. So if you have any unwanted gifts, chocolates, ornaments, homeware, please drop them by – we’d very much appreciate your support!”

If you would like to get in touch with the centre ahead of the event please email newport@rspca.org.uk or call
0300 123 0744. The centre is open every day 11.30am-4pm apart from Thursday when it is closed to the public.

The centre would also like to advise people planning to attend with their dogs to keep an eye on their Facebook page in the days prior to the event, as if hot weather is forecast the dog show part of the day would be cancelled.
