He’s a beauty that’s for sure – but sadly Benjamin has not had a single person interested in him since he has been at RSPCA Newport Animal Centre.
Although the 10-year-old cross type dog certainly has one special fan – after being lucky enough to meet RSPCA Cymru’s VIP supporter Matt Johnson, ahead of the animal welfare charity’s BIG Walkies LIVE event on 10 June. He even appeared in Matt’s Instagram stories!
Benjamin will be attending the event – which will be giving dogs and their owners a unique opportunity to take part in a scenic 2.5-mile (4km) or 1.25mile (2km) walk in Bute Park on Sunday 10 June, alongside hundreds of poochie pals.
Signing-up is easy and can be done via the RSPCA website, with entry a bargain £5 for over-16s and free for under-16s. There’s a host of bonus goodies for participants. Ticket-holders get their hands on a supporter pack and wristband, t-shirt, bandana for dogs, a dog cuddly toy for children, stickers and even a dog poo bag!
Guests can also enjoy the BIG Walkies LIVE event village in Sophia Gardens – including food and drink stands, and a host of stalls; helping to make the event a “pawsome day-out”.
Deputy manager at Newport Animal Centre, Kath Logan, said Benjamin came into RSPCA care after his owner sadly passed away.
“Benjamin is a beautiful boy with a loving temperament,” said Kath. “Once he gets to know you, Benjamin loves to say hello and get fuss and cuddles off you. He enjoys spending his time playing in the paddock and socialising with other dogs and is even fond of being groomed.
“We know Benjamin is going to absolutely LOVE BIG Walkies LIVE on June 10 and will really enjoy sniffing about in the park and meeting lots of people and their beloved dogs.
“Although we do hope that within three weeks, we will have found a perfect owner for Benjamin and we hope he would be coming along to BIG Walkies LIVE with a new owner instead!”
Benjamin could potentially be rehomed to live with another dog after a successful introduction, but would be looking for a cat free home and would be suited to a home where he has company for the majority of the time.
If you would like to express an interest in Benjamin please contact RSPCA Newport Animal Centre via 0300 123 0744. The centre is based on Hartridge Farm Road in Newport.
Places for BIG Walkies LIVE are limited – so we’re urging those wanting a place at the waggiest and woofiest walkies of the year to sign up as soon as they can. Entry for over-16s is just a fiver – and includes so many goodies, from t-shirts, to a dog bandana, a children’s toy and more.
More information on BIG Walkies LIVE 2018 is available on the RSPCA website. Should you wish to help the RSPCA help dogs and other animals, you can donate online. The RSPCA is a charity and relies on donations from the public to exist.
