A four-day-old kitten who was abandoned by her mother on a cold and wet day in Birmingham is due to star on the small screen in the Channel 5 show Jo Brand’s Cats and Kittens.

The kitten was found by a member of the public huddled under a bush after they heard her distressed meowing. The contacted the RSPCA, and Inspector Louise Marston collected her and took her to the charity’s Birmingham Animal Hospital.

Louise said: “It was so cold that it is a miracle she survived. She was hidden under a bush so there is no way she would have been found if she hadn’t have been meowing loudly.

“Thankfully she was OK but she needed to be hand-reared as she was still so young. I’m pleased to say that she has made a good recovery and has gone out to a new home, where she has been named Sophie.”

Sophie’s rescue and her road to recovery will be shown on Jo Brand’s Cats and Kittens tomorrow evening.

Comedian Jo Brand: “I’m a self-confessed feline fanatic and this series goes behind the scenes and follows the RSPCA inspectors, vets and volunteers who work tirelessly to save the nation’s cats from harm.  From four-storey falls, to cats stuck up chimneys the RSPCA have their work cut out rescuing Britain’s moggies from danger and we follow them every step of the way!”
