Seven puppies have been rescued at Fishguard Port in the early hours of Thursday morning (23 November), as part of a multi-agency operation tackling illegal animal importation.

The puppies – two foxhound type and five cocker spaniel type dogs – were found in two crates in the boot of a car that came off the Rosslare to Fishguard ferry at around 1.30am, which had been delayed by four hours.

RSPCA Cymru is appealing for information after a cat was dumped in a pet carrier in a layby on the A470 road near Caerphilly.

RSPCA Cymru has launched an appeal for information after a dog walker in Aberystwyth was filmed hitting a dog.

The video footage, which has been sent to RSPCA Cymru, shows a man with grey hair wearing a hat, brown coat and jeans, and walking down a footpath deliberately hitting a small black dog with the lead used to yank the animal into the air and along the path.

RSPCA Cymru is calling on the last two councils in Wales to ban the use of sky lanterns on their land.

Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council and Flintshire County Council are the only two councils who have yet to bring in a ban.

RSPCA Cymru has long highlighted the dangers associated with the use of sky lanterns, and promotes the use of harmless alternatives which prevent injury, suffering and fatality of animals.

RSPCA Cymru is braced for thousands of calls this festive season as it launches its Kindness at Christmas Appeal to help care for abused, neglected and sick animals.

During December last year and January (2017), 5,932 incidents were reported to the RSPCA in Wales with 141 of those happening across Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
