The RSPCA is appealing for people to come forward with information after a poorly bulldog puppy who was unable to walk was dumped outside a vets in a pet carrier.
The pup, thought to only be around nine weeks’ old, was abandoned on the steps of Little Lane Vets, in Wigan, on Monday, 4 September.
Sadly, the puppy – who was nicknamed Mavis – deteriorated and she was so poorly that she was put to sleep to prevent further suffering.
RSPCA inspector Susie Micallef said: “Mavis was in so much pain and she was unable to use her back legs at all. She was desperately trying to walk – it was so sad to see.
“She was abandoned inside a cat carrier which had two childrens’ tops inside. It is clear that whoever dumped her did so intentionally. They may have thought they were doing the right thing by leaving her outside a vet, but it is never acceptable to abandon an animal. Mavis was so young and defenceless that anything could have happened to her.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact the RSPCA in complete confidence on 0300 123 8018.
