Theon, Towyn beachA common seal pup has been rescued by RSPCA Cymru from Towyn beach, in Abergele, and affectionately nicknamed after a Game of Thrones character!

RSPCA Cymru was notified after a member of the public spotted a lethargic male seal pup, whose left flipper was not moving.

The pup was rescued by RSPCA animal collection officer Will Galvin, and taken to a specialist wildlife centre at Stapeley Grange for rehabilitation. The charity completed this rescue on Sunday (August 13).

Staff at the wildlife centre have nicknamed the pup Theon, with a number of seals at the centre recently adopting Game of Thrones identities!

Theon is being closely monitored, has some muscle injuries, and is on medication.

Animal collection officer Will Galvin said: “I arrived at Towyn beach to find this poor seal pup looking very thin, and in a lethargic state.

“The poor thing was transported to specialist RSPCA wildlife facilities for treatment and support.

“Theon is now undergoing rehabilitation at Stapeley Grange – and seems to have quickly joined a Game of Thrones clan!

“Rescuing and rehabilitating wildlife is a huge part of the RSPCA’s work in Wales, and I’m just happy to have been able to help this young seal pup.”
