A man has been fined by the courts after he admitted leaving cat food laced with antifreeze in his front garden, which led to the death of a neighbour’s cat.

Stephen Welch (DOB 11/01/1958), of Snowshill Close, Daventry, appeared at Northampton Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (3 January), where he pleaded guilty to leaving out the antifreeze, under section 7 of the Animal Welfare Act, in a case brought by the RSPCA.

An RSPCA officer caught a cat which was tumbling 40-foot to the floor from a towering tree in a remarkable Cardiff rescue.

RSPCA animal collection officer Annie Janes completed the rescue in the Penylan area of the city on 29 December.

RSPCA Cymru has launched an urgent appeal for information, after a male Bengal cat from Flint suffered horrendous injuries after being shot with a pellet gun on New Year’s Eve.

The charity was called after the cat – named Jester, from Albert Avenue – was found in an awful state, with his back legs collapsed. He was taken to a local veterinary practice for urgent treatment, where his legs were found to have become paralysed.

An Aylesbury duck lost its life in tragic circumstances after becoming trapped in fishing litter in Hendre Lake, in the St Mellons area of Cardiff.

RSPCA Cymru attempted to rescue the bird on Friday 30 December – from water near Cypress Drive.
