A buzzard has been rescued after becoming entangled on a barbed wire fence.

RSPCA animal collection officer (ACO) Fiona Thomas and animal welfare officer (AWO) Sian Burton were called to Tresilian Wood, St Donats, Llantwit Major after the trapped bird was spotted.

“He must have been in a lot of pain. It was such a strange way to become entangled on a fence.”

The buzzard was immediately taken to a nearby veterinary surgery, but sadly on veterinary advice he was put to sleep. Buzzard pic2 Feb16

“We’d like to thank the person who called us about this bird and for monitoring him until we arrived,” added AWO Burton.

“It was very sad he could not be saved, but had he been just left where he was he would have suffered a long, lingering death so at least he was saved that.
