STAFF at RSPCA’s Newport Animal Centre are gearing up for a special open day next month.

The centre, based at Hartridge Farm Road, will be holding their annual family fun day on Sunday 14 June – but will also be unveiling a special new facility.

As well as games, stalls and competitions, the centre will be officially opening their new rabbit enrichment run.

Centre manager Debbie Caffull said: “The rabbit enrichment run will officially open at 12.10pm and will enable the centre to provide better welfare for our rabbits and also provide a fun play area for the rabbits as well.

“It will be a great area where not only the staff, but volunteers can go to spend time with the rabbits, as it will be big enough to enter rather than a small rabbit run.”

The open day will also be a chance for people to bring along their pet dogs and enter a fun dog show for all ages and types.

“There are 11 different categories to get involved with including best trick to the waggiest tail,” added Debbie.

“If you don’t have a dog we also have a ‘catless’ cat show for all the cat lovers out there. All you need to do is bring along your cat photos on the day to enter the photo competition.

“There are five different categories. Winners for the ‘catless’ cat show and the dog show will receive goodie bags for their pets. These will include toys and treats to spoil your pets with plus the winners of the dog show will receive a small bag of RSPCA food and rosette.”

The day will also involve games, stalls, a bouncy castle, raffle, tombola, a barbecue and face painting. The open day will be held between 11am and 3.30pm. Entrance is £2 for adults and 50p for children.
