STAFF at RSPCA’s Newport Animal Centre have been overjoyed to received a donation for £363.79.
The money was presented to the centre by kindhearted youngsters Lara Hayle and Lily Gwatkin who managed to raise the funds at their school, Charles Williams Church in Wales Primary School in Caerleon.
Lara organised an animal-themed non-uniform day at their school and encouraged their pupils and staff to donate 50p.
Lara’s mum, Ivon Hayle said nine-year-old Lara, was over the moon that they were able to raise so much for the centre.
“She could not believe it,” she said. “She asked for a 50p donation but there were lots of generous donations. Lily, her best friend, helped her out on the day and they counted the money in their lunch break.
“The school were really supportive and some of the teachers came dressed in their onesies.
“Lara dressed up as her favourite animal – which is a puppy – so she wore a puppy onesie. She wants to be a vet and loves animals.”
Animal centre manager Debbie Caffull said: “We received a fantastic donation of £363.79 brought in by Lara and Lily. We would like to say a massive thank you to all that took part and helped out our animals.”
The centre, based at Hartridge Farm Road, is open 11.30am to 4pm every day, except Thursdays.
Services the centre offers include animal adoption, dog training, microchipping, pet merchandise and pet welfare advice.
