Animal lovers are being urged to come along to this year’s RSPCA Family Fun Day on Sunday (10 August) at Felledge Animal Centre, Chester-le-Street, County Durham.

Organisers have packed even more activities into this year’s event and hope that local people will help make it the biggest and best yet.

The event takes place from 11am till 3pm, with lots going on throughout the day for families and, of course, their dogs, who are welcome on a lead too.

Amy Weaver-Tyler, fundraising manager for the RSPCA in the North of England, said: “Children can look forward to face painting, bouncy castle not to mention good old fashioned fairground games including a coconut shy, hoopla and tin-can alley, which we’re sure will be just as popular with the adults!

“We’ll have stalls to browse, a raffle and tombola with some great prizes up for grabs and, as always, home-made cakes and refreshments will be available.

“The Felledge horses will be doing a parade, there will be a police dog demonstration – both of which always go down really well – and our long-time partners Star Paws will be in attendance taking photos.

“For dog owners and their four legged friends we’re hosting a Fun Dog Show with rosettes and yummy treats to be won as well dog agility and temptation alley, which is new for 2014.”

The fun dog show aims to celebrate and promote healthiness and happiness in dogs and with nine different classes to enter there is something for most dogs.

Registration opens at 11am with the first classes starting from 11.30am. Classes include happiest dog; best trick; best puppy; best veteran; best rescue dog; waggiest tail; best condition; most appealing eyes and best junior handler. Classes cost £2 each on the day.

Entry into the Fun Day, which is at the centre on Beaney Lane, Chester Moor, DH2 3BF, is free for all but car parking charges of £3 apply.

Amy added: “All money raised on the day will go towards the treatment and rehabilitation of animals at Felledge. Sadly our services continue to be much in demand, so any support you can offer will make a huge difference. We very much look forward to welcoming you to our Fun Day.”
