We’re working in partnership with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles to drive forward animal welfare in a move that could help thousands of animals across England and Wales.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has committed itself to donate six brand new bespoke BlueMotion Crafter vans, which will be specially adapted for use by us. The vans will help find loving new homes for pets and seek vital rehabilitation for sick and injured wildlife.

The vans will support frontline services

The new Crafters, and the financial support provided by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles through events and sponsorship, will be used as part of our networking project. They will transport rescued and abandoned animals around the country to support frontline services.

Our networking project will also improve efficiency within our frontline services, meaning the support of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will have a long-lasting cost cutting effect without compromise.

Matthew Cull, our high value giving manager, said:

“The impact this commitment from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will have on the day to day management of our core animal welfare activity is huge.

“The networking project allows our staff on the frontline at animal centres to make the best decisions and use all our available resources in the most cost effective and efficient way.

“The vehicles are key to this. They need to be fit for purpose and adaptable. Without this gift we simply wouldn’t be able to carry out this work. We’re incredibly grateful to Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and are looking forward to working with them to help shape this project and our future partnership together.”

The first two of our new Crafter vans will be out on the roads from late September following their delivery.

Design an RSPCA van competition

The vans will also be decorated in colourful ‘wraps’, designed by the winners of our national competition for school children. The competition, which is focused on educating children on animal welfare, launched on 30 June and is open until 30 September.

Alex Smith, director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, said:

“I’m delighted that we have been able to make such a valuable contribution to the RSPCA’s very worthy cause.

“This partnership with the RSPCA demonstrates our ongoing commitment to working in partnership with Britain’s businesses and organisations.”

Each of the Crafter vans will be specially fitted out to specifications provided by our operations team. Allowing a variety of different animals to be transported around the country.

The Crafter allows adaptation and the interiors of each van will be designed specifically with the comfort and care of the animals in mind. This will ensure journeys are as safe and comfortable as possible for the animals being transported.

Money raised through events and sponsorship as part of the partnership between us and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will pay for the salaries of the staff who will drive the donated Crafter vans. It will also cover the costs of administrative support for the network project and the ongoing running costs of the vehicles.
