RSPCA Cymru is trying to find the owners of a green iguana found roaming around the garden of a house in Newport.

The householder was surprised to say the least when she discovered the two-foot-long lizard strolling around her garden. After realising he was harmless she was able to catch the reptile and confine him in a box before handing him over to the RSPCA.

Inspector Selina Chan said: “This iguana is very tame and has been well looked after which suggests that he might have has escaped from his home and got lost.

“Posters have been put up in the area but so far no one has come forward to claim him. We would love to reunite him with his owner so if anyone knows where this lost lizard belongs then we would like to hear from them.”

The iguana is currently being looked after by a local wildlife centre. Anyone with information is asked to call the inspector’s information line on 0300 123 8018 and leave a message for inspector Chan. All calls are treated in confidence.
