The RSPCA is offering runners the chance to take part in the now sold-out Leeds Half Marathon. The organisers announced they have no more places available for the race on Sunday 11 May earlier today (Monday 24 March).

The news means the only places still available are those held by charities.

RSPCA fundraising manager for the North Amy Weaver-Tyler said: “If you were intending signing up but never got round to it, you need not be disappointed.

“We have a small number of places and are urging anyone who wants one to get in touch as soon as possible.

“This is a tough but brilliant event with an amazing atmosphere. I’m really excited to be able to offer people the chance to take part and join the herd in raising some much needed funds for us as the same time.”

The 13.1 mile run, organised by Jane Tomlinson’s Run for All charity, starts on the Headrow and finishes on Cookridge Street, to the side of landmark Millenium Square.

RSPCA places cost £20 and a minimum sponsorship pledge of £200. Runners get an RSPCA running vest, fundraising pack including hints and tips to maximise sponsorship and support from the RSPCA running team.

Amy said: “All of the money raised will go towards the RSPCA’s work in preventing cruelty to animals by all lawful means, including rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming abandoned and mistreated pets, bringing those responsible for cruelty before the courts where necessary and campaigning for improvements in animal welfare.”

The RSPCA also has places in several other runs including the biggest half marathon in the world, the Bupa Great North Run, on 7 September, for which the ballot has closed and successful runners notified. It costs £42 to enter and a minimum sponsorship target of £300.

The second Yorkshire Marathon (12 October) – which is also sold out – is £40 to enter with a minimum sponsorship target of £300.

If it’s a 10k you’re interested in, we have places in the Hull 10k (8 June), Pennine 10k (22 June) Leeds 10k (20 July) and York 10k (3 August). They cost just £10 to enter with a minimum sponsorship target of £100.
