Animal lovers are being given the chance to vote for their favourite snap of a pet in the People’s Choice category of the prestigious RSPCA Young Photographer Awards, which launched yesterday.

An official judging panel, which included wildlife expert and RSPCA vice president Chris Packham as well as several industry professionals, selected their winners ready for a special ceremony in December.  Now it’s the public’s turn to pick their winner with a special online poll.

RSPCA Cymru is appealing for information about four Jack Russell puppies who were handed into a veterinary practice in Haverfordwest on Friday (January 31st 2014) with suspected chemical burns on their bodies.

The dogs were taken to the vets in the Portfield area by a group of people who said they had found the dogs dumped on the road, although they did not leave their contact details and left promptly afterwards.

RSPCA Cymru is urging cat owners to be extra vigilant following the deaths of three cats in Milford Haven over the weekend from antifreeze poisoning.

Although at this stage it is not known how the cats came to ingest the antifreeze, people who use it are being asked to make sure they dispose of it responsibly and clear up any spillages.

31 January 2014 marks the beginning of the Year of the Horse in the Chinese calendar. To mark the occasion we’re announcing a huge rise in the numbers of horses rescued and taken in by us last year.

In 2013, we rescued, collected or took in 1,526 equines, 69 per cent more than the previous year.
