Final preparations are taking place for the biggest event in RSPCA Great Ayton Animal Centre’s calendar – the summer Gala Day and Fun Dog Show.

The event takes place on Sunday 1 September at the animal centre on Yarm Lane in Great Ayton and everyone is invited to attend.

Olivia Hatcher, deputy manager of RSPCA Great Ayton said: “It’s an extremely busy time, as you can imagine, as the planning and organisation is all done on top of our usual day-to-day work of looking after the many animals in our care.

“It’s a really important event for us though and we hope people will come along and support us.”

RSPCA Great Ayton Animal Centre is a temporary home for some of the most neglected and cruelly treated dogs, cats, rabbits and other animals in the North East. All of the animals have come in from RSPCA officers because of concerns for their welfare and many arrive in a shocking state.

Olivia said: “We make sure they get the veterinary treatment they need, training and general TLC until they can, hopefully, be found loving new homes. In some cases they can be with us for many months.

“Events like the Gala Day and Fun Dog Show help us raise the money we need to keep doing this, day-in and day-out. It costs over £35,250 a month to keep RSPCA Great Ayton running so every penny really does count.”

Entry to the event costs £2 a car, which will go back into the care of the animals at the centre.

There will be stalls selling sweets and craft items, a bouncy castle, fairground rides and face painting, refreshments including an RSPCA Freedom Food BBQ, a fun dog show with eight classes which can be entered on arrival, dog agility and a chance to meet some very special miniature horses. A pet photographer will also be there.

Gates open at 11.30am and the event will close at 3.30pm.
