A poodle was so badly neglected when she was rescued by us that when her matted fur was clipped it was discovered that she had lost her front paws through lack of circulation.

Cheeky the poodle on a carpet © RSPCARSPCA Inspector Tony Woodley was horrified when he received a complaint and found 14-year-old poodle/shi-tzu cross breed Cheeky living with her former owner in Brighton.

Inspector Woodley said:

“This poor dog was so matted that there was simply no blood supply getting through to her paws so they fell off – it was tragic. Together with rotten teeth, she was not in a good way.”

But vets at Arthur Lodge in Horsham came to the rescue, with the help of Horsham students, and created a harness on wheels for Cheeky so she can get around without putting any weight on her front legs.

Cheeky has now been given veterinary treatment and thanks to her new mode of transport is able to get around and is now looking for a new home.

Inspector Woodley said:

“We are looking for a home where Cheeky can live out the rest of her days with lots of love and be given the attention she has lacked so far in her life. We really hope someone will come forward and want Cheeky in their life.”

Cheeky’s former owner is being investigated by us.
