The RSPCA is appealing for information after two cats were found dead on a riverbank near Elizabeth Street in Pentre, Rhondda, on Sunday (14/07/13).

One tortoiseshell cat was found decomposing in a reusable Asda bag which had been weighed down with rocks and tied with shoelaces. A dark coloured cat was found next to the bag also in a state of decomposition.

RSPCA inspector Selina Chan said: “We fear these cats suffered an awful and very frightening death in what we suspect was a deliberate act of cruelty. I would appeal to anyone who has any information regarding this incident however small, to contact the RSPCA cruelty line in confidence on 0300 1234 999.”

Those found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal can face a maximum six month prison sentence, and/or a £20,000 fine.
