Litter harms animals, so bin it before injury or even death occurs. That’s the message of our officer after rescuing a cygnet in North Wales.
RSPCA Inspector Mike Pugh was called to a lake on the Haven Holidays site in Chwilog, Pwllheli, on the afternoon of Saturday 29 June. The young swan was caught in discarded fishing line and was clearly struggling.
Inspector Pugh said:
“Fishing litter can have a nasty impact on animals, but thankfully we were able to rescue this young swan.
“Any litter is a potential threat to wildlife. Something as small as an elastic band can cause the death of birds and small animals as it can get caught round their neck or can be swallowed causing an animal to choke to death.
“I would urge people to please think that the next time they go to drop a piece of litter an animal could die as a consequence.”
