The RSPCA is appealing for witnesses with information about a dead dog that was pulled from the River Huntspill in Bridgewater in Somerset two days ago.
The dog, a large, female, tan coloured, crossed breed, is not believed to have been in the water for a long time.
RSPCA Inspector Hayley Lawrence said:
“A post mortem carried out by a vet has established that her skull had been smashed on the left side of her head with deliberate force from a blunt instrument such as a hammer.
“Her body is like that of a greyhound but she has a jaw like a bull dog. If anyone recognises that description and can give me any information about her owner would they please call the inspector information line on 0300 123 8018 and leave a message for me.”
