An RSPCA inspector is appealing for witnesses to an incident in which a young, black cat was shot with an air rifle in East Brent village in Somerset.
The female cat, who is just over a year old and called Luna, was found sitting in her basket with a blood-covered head by her owners on Monday (Dec 17) afternoon.
She was rushed to a vet and it was only when she had an operation to remove her badly damaged eye that a pellet from an air rifle was found in it.
Luna’s owners have no idea who might have shot their cat. They say she does like to visit other peoples’ gardens in the village.
RSPCA inspector Hayley Lawrence does not think she was shot by mistake:
“I find it hard to believe that she was shot after being mistaken for another animal.
“If you have any information, however trivial, please call our inspector information line in confidence on 0300 123 8181.”
